How to Run a Catering Business
Anyone who is passionate about food would really want to get into catering business. Who does not want to work and earn money with something they love doing? But, wait, are you really equipped and ready to face the challenges of running a catering business? Getting into catering business is not just about dicing, slicing and cooking. It takes more than just good food to have a successful catering business. Remember that you are getting into a serious business. You need to have the knowledge and background on marketing, sales and personnel management in order to be profitable in catering business. Aside from that if you want to run your own business you will have to sacrifice some of your personal happiness. Like your time- there will be days or even weeks when you will have to stay up late in the night to prepare for an event in which you will be providing food. Aside from sacrificing your time, there will also be days when you have to get up and work even if you are not feeling well. Now, are you ready for all of these? Are you ready to take the responsibility in starting up a catering business?
Be sure to get all necessary information from the client like what type of event will it be, the number of guests expected, their budget, and the menu. During the meeting with your client you have to prepare a small sample of food from the menu they have chosen for tasting. You should also be prepared to provide alternative menu or food just in case the client does not want the kind of food they've chosen earlier. Knowing the number of guests present on the occasion is very important so you can anticipate as to how many additional employees you will need to hire. Having the right number of personnel during the event is one of the keys to ensure a successful event.
Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you have all the ingredients and equipments at least two days before the event so that you will not panic and end up having a disastrous day.
Once you've made a deal with a client and you gave your word that you are going to provide food catering for their event there is just no turning back. No matter what the circumstances you are facing you cannot be late nor back out from the deal. Because if you do, you are only jeopardizing the success of your catering business.
